Extracted from Luke 2: 41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
Was reminded of this story about the life of Jesus on the way back from bible study today. Jesus left His earthly family to do greater things which our heavenly Father has called Him to do. He was in the temple, listening and asking the teachers questions. And His parents came to the temple to look for Him.
Many times in our lives, we find that it's difficult for us to serve God cos our parents are not saved yet and they do not understand the things we do for God. But we shouldn't let this be a hindrance to us. Jesus did not let His earthly family stop Him from doing His Father's business. And Jesus was only 12 years old then! Pri 6... Many of us have past that age long ago... But we're still living in the shadow of our parents.
Some ppl say 'I cant do this, my parents dont allow me...' Or this 'I cant stay out too late, I'm afraid that I'll get grounded.' I'm not saying we should rebel and be defiant towards our parents. The bible tells us to honour our parents. What I'm saying is that we got to step out of this fearful mindset, this crippling mindset that's stopping us from breaking through to the next level! We're no longer that young that we cant think for ourselves. Prove yourself worthy to be treated as an adult by the things that you say and the way you behave at home. Step into the realm of faith and trust that all things will work out.
In the end, Jesus' parents came to the temple to look for Him when they realised that He was missing. Similarly, we can believe and trust God that one day, our parents'll also come to the temple to look for us. Then they'll find out and experience for themselves the lives that God has planned for them, Amen? So we all got to increase our prayer lives and walk close with God.
Just a thought...
